About
Wes Godard’s journey in drag racing is a testament to his skill, humility, and dedication. Starting in his teens building go-karts and drag cars, Wes’s talent was evident early on. At 18, he joined Al Billes’s Alcohol Funny Car team, where he honed his technical approach to racing. Later, Wes joined Doug Hearsum on Gary Irving’s Pro Mod team. He played a key role in their 1998 Canadian Pro Mod Championship win and their title as the “World’s Quickest Pro Mod” with a 6.354-second pass. By 1998, he was building his own cars, including a 1974 Austin Mini and a Top Sportsman 1958 Nash Metropolitan, known as “Hell Billy,” which ran impressive 6-second times after a rebuild. Beyond his racing career, Wes has made significant contributions to the community. His work with Cynergy Composites produced the widely used 1968 Firebird and 1970 Camaro Pro Mod bodies, solidifying his role as a leader in race car design. He has also supported top racers like Spencer Hyde, who secured the Canadian Record at Napierville Dragway and won the $100,000 World Series of Pro Mod Championship in 2023 with Wes’s expertise. Known for his fabrication and mentoring skills, he supports racers with chassis builds, repairs, and setups, embodying a selfless dedication to the sport. While maintaining a full-time job as a mechanic, Wes has remained an invaluable figure in Canadian drag racing, inspiring future generations through his commitment and technical expertise. His contributions have made him a candidate for the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
